Local BlackBerry paid apps site goes live

August 23, 2010

From The Australian article:

RESEARCH In Motion has finally given the green light for paid applications in Australia.

Local users this morning told The Australian they were able to make purchases from the BlackBerry App World Australia online store.

Prices for apps start at $US0.99, RIM Australia said on its website.

Like Apple’s popular iTunes program, BlackBerry App World is free to download.

BlackBerry users in 13 countries have been able to buy applications since April 2009, while 42 countries had access to the free-only versions.

RIM began offering free apps on the local site  last December, but since then there has been no confirmation when a paid version would be launched.
